In a related development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on February 9th, arrested one Benjamin Aduli for offences bordering on criminal breach of trust and obtaining by false pretence. Operatives of the EFCC got wind of his nefarious activities through a petition by one of his victims. According to the petitioner, Aduli claimed that he could “help source for a loan facility of $30 million in Dubai” that would be used to finance Fleet farms, a company belonging to the petitioner. Having convinced the potential investor of the “good deal”, he demanded for a contributory fee of $154,146 which he claimed would be remitted to ABA investment LLC in Dubai as “a condition for accessing the loan”. Not sensing any foul play, the petitioner paid the said sum to a Micro Finance Bank on the instruction of Aduli, for onward remittance as promised. A 7-year-old girl, who was declared missing days ago was found dead in a bush in Iree Town, Osun State. The spokesperson of the Osun Sate Police Command, Mrs Folashade Odoro, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, February 15th, in Osogbo, said the body was discovered near a sawmill by Chief Oluode of Iree and later reported to the police. "Upon receiving the information, police quickly deployed a search party to the scene and the body was discovered with visible matchet cuts" Mrs Odoro said the case is being investigated as a possible murder as police suspected a foul play in the circumstance surrounding the death of the girl. The governor of Ebonyi state, Engr David Umahi has ordered the release of N500,000 to the Mr Chijoke Oraku who was brutalized by soldiers for wearing camouflage in Anambra state and also demanded the dismissal and prosecution of the two soldiers. A 44-year-old woman, Ms. Mercy Ekwere from Edo Esit Eket escaped death on Monday, February 6th, after police dispersed witch-hunters who cordoned her, tied her hands and legs, then tortured her with sticks and machetes to a state of coma. U.S President Donald Trump took to Twitter to lash out at Democratic senators John McCain and Richard Blumenthal after they criticized the U.S Military's secret raid on Yemen, authorized by Donald Trump that killed at least 23 civilians, including women and children and also led to the death of a Navy Seal, Chief Petty Officer William "Ryan" Owens. The operation carried out by Special Navy seals, which occurred on the 29th of January, was to target and eliminate al Qaeda members in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and also obtain Intel on future operations against al Qaeda in Yemen. The Federal Government has announced a take over of Arik Airline, which has recently been experiencing difficulties. According to the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, the government’s decision to take over the management of Arik Airlines would stabilise its operations, enhance its long term economic value, revitalise its ailing operations, and sustain safety standards, in view of its pivotal role in the Nigerian aviation sector. The intervention, according to the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), clearly underscores the government’s commitment to instilling sanity in the country’s aviation sector and prevent a major catastrophe. The airline will now be managed by Roy Ukpebo Ilegbodu, an aviation expert, under Mr Oluseye Opasanya, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
